Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge-Weather

It's time for a Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge once again.  This week we were challenged to create a project, layout or card focusing on weather.

This past couple weeks have been very emotional.  On April 3, my daughter and I were rear ended by a drunk driver.  Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.  However, it sure makes you think about your own mortality.  Life is so precious.  James 4:14 kept popping into my head, and was my inspiration for this card.  James 4:14 says,  "Why you don't even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."  I made this card for my family as a reminder of our short time on this earth.  We must not take our lives for granted.  Life can change in an instant.

To create this card, I first wet the entire surface with water.  I added a couple magenta and orange acrylic ink splotches.  The water allows the ink to spread across the paper.  I tipped the card to allow the ink to run and drip off the side of the card.  Once dry, I spread some Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in a couple spots.  I tore a Starbucks coffee cup sleeve and sewed it to the top of the card to represent the clouds.  Using the petal from my daisy stencil I added modeling paste raindrops.  I added more water and acrylic ink in magenta and orange letting it run across the surface. Using my Neocolor II watercolor crayons I outlined the raindrops in pink and orange.  I then used a wet brush to outline the raindrops I had colored with watercolor crayon.  It gives it a great watercolor effect.  I highlighted each raindrop with gesso.    I made a flower using a circle from the coffee cup sleeve, misc scrap papers, and added two buttons to the center.  The leaves of the flower are cut from a security envelope.  I stamped the man holding the umbrella to a scrap piece of paper and glued it to the front of the card.  I simply added the typed verse using my glue stick.

I hope this inspires you to get out your paints, inks and gesso!  Create something inky and fun!  Don't forget to link up your weather creations at Frosted Designs.

Blessings,
Michelle

  2. That must have been so incredibly scary. It's times like that which make you realize how blessed you are and not take the small things for granted. I love the way you created this card to remind you of what is important. The Bible verse you cited is perfect. Thanks for telling us about how you created each layer. I keep wanting to give mixed media a try... maybe after reading a few more of your posts I will get brave enough!
